Presentation title

A Brief History of Artificial Spin Ice: From Differential Fabrication to Application

Dr Troy Dion is an professor at the Center for Science and Innovation in Spintronics and Institute of Materials in Tohoku University, Japan. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from UCL, London. His research interests are focused on spin-wave dynamics in nanostructured magnetic materials and harnessing their properties for novel computation technologies. His main focus has been on artificial spin ice which is an array of assistant interacting nanomagnets whose emergent properties are tailored by geometry and magnetic state. Notable contributions to the field of artificial spin ice (ASI) include; precise state access, demonstration of reservoir computing and ultra-strong coupling. Ongoing research involves studying frequency combing effects in these multi-layered ASI. Future work aims to use isotropic magnetic materials to reduce energy switching in ASI so it can be integrated with CMOS technology.
