Voltage Control of Magnetism for Ultralow-Power Spintronics

Prof. Bhagwati Prasad serves as a faculty member and Infosys Young Investigator in the Department of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. He leads the Disruptive Electronic Materials and Nanoelectronic Devices (DEMAND) Lab, focusing on the development of next-generation electronic materials and devices tailored for applications in Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), neuromorphic computing, and quantum technologies. Prof. Prasad earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge in 2015, supported by the prestigious Nehru Trust and St. John's College Fellowships . Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed an M.Tech. in Materials Science at IIT Kanpur, where he was recognized with the Academic Excellence Award, and an M.Sc in Physics from H.N.B. Garhwal University, graduating as a gold medalist .​His professional journey includes roles as a Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Germany, a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Principal Research Scientist at Western Digital (formerly IBM Research) in San Jose, USA .​

An accomplished researcher, Prof. Prasad has authored over 45 publications in esteemed journals such as Nature, Nature Materials, Science Advances, Advanced Materials, and Nano Letters, accumulating more than 3,000 citations and an h-index of approximately 21 . He holds over 45 patents, including more than 35 granted in the United States.​His contributions to the scientific community are further evidenced by his roles as Principal Editor of MRS Advances, Editorial Board Member of Nature Scientific Reports ​, and Guest Editor for journals such as Advanced Functional Materials, APL Materials and Electronics . He is also an active member of professional societies including IEEE, the Materials Research Society (MRS), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the Indian Physics Association.​Prof. Prasad's excellence has been recognized with the Infosys Young Investigator Award by IISc and the Infosys Foundation . He has delivered over 110 invited talks at prominent international conferences and institutions, sharing his insights on emerging electronic materials and devices.
